Bette Shifman

Bette Shifman is Executive Director of ADR Chambers and serves as Banking Ombuds for the ADR Chambers Banking Ombuds Office. She has thirty years experience in international dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, and fact-finding, in areas ranging from employee, construction and commercial matters to investor-state, international boundary, and law of the sea disputes.

Prior to joining the staff of ADR Chambers, she served as Deputy Secretary-General at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and Senior Legal Officer at the International Court of Justice, and practiced with law firms in New York and Amsterdam. She is a published author on international dispute resolution, and former editor of the Journal of International Arbitration. In addition to teaching dispute resolution and setting up internal dispute resolution mechanisms for inter-governmental organizations, Bette has trained with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in London, UK, and the International Ombudsman Association.
